MORE THAN A WEEKLY VOICE LESSON

Why Singers Choose VOCES Academy of the Arts

Expert guidance, a personal path, and a community where children, teens, and adults can develop their voices and be heard.

Your Voice Is Not a Formula

Personalized training begins with the singer, not the method.

Every voice reflects a different body, history, personality, musical background, and set of goals. A one-size-fits-all sequence may be convenient, but it is rarely the most thoughtful way to train a singer.

At VOCES, exercises are chosen for a reason and adjusted according to response. Repertoire supports development rather than distracting from it. Progress is measured not by comparison with another singer, but by increased coordination, understanding, confidence, and artistic freedom.

Vocal Specialists, Not Generalists

Advanced training centered on the singing voice.

Every VOCES instructor holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance or higher. Our faculty brings together performance, pedagogy, conducting, and educational experience while maintaining one shared expectation: each student deserves knowledgeable, individualized, and respectful instruction.

All new students are assessed by Dr. José Miguel Santelices, who recommends placement according to the singer's needs, goals, schedule, and current faculty availability.

From the Lesson Room to the Stage

Training becomes meaningful when it has somewhere to go.

VOCES presents two main concerts each year. These performances give students a goal, a process, and a supportive setting in which to apply technique under real artistic conditions.

Additional community experiences and special 21+ karaoke nights give adult students informal ways to sing, connect, and build confidence. Participation is guided by readiness and goals rather than pressure.

Science-Based, Artistically Alive

Technique should support expression, not replace it.

VOCES uses evidence-based principles to make vocal training clearer and more sustainable. Students learn to recognize coordination, reduce unnecessary effort, and practice with greater independence. At the same time, lessons remain connected to language, style, storytelling, repertoire, and the individual reasons a person chooses to sing.

The goal is not to manufacture identical voices. It is to help each singer discover greater freedom, reliability, and expressive possibility within their own instrument.

A Community for All Ages

VOCES is home to children discovering their first healthy vocal habits, teenagers developing through changing voices and growing ambitions, adults beginning or returning to singing, and experienced performers refining advanced work.

This range of ages and experiences is part of what makes the academy distinctive. Students see that artistic development does not belong to a single age, genre, or career path. There is always another level of understanding and another way to be heard.
